MUMBAI: The number of Covid-19 patients in the city may be on the rise, but the
doubling time has also increased from 8.3 days to 10 days between April 17 and April 27.
Doubling time is the period taken for the number of cases to double. The average doubling rate for the state is 8.9 days.
G-North ward, which includes the Dharavi hot spot, also improved its doubling time from 4.5 days to 8.6 days.
The analysis forms a part of the report prepared by a central team, which was here last week to analyse the Covid-19 preparedness in the city.
The report, which analysed the doubling rate ward-wise, stated that most wards had shown an improvement in the doubling time between the period analysed. G-South, which is the worst-hit as of now, improved its doubling rate from 10.6 days to 17.6 days.
Municipal commissioner
Praveen Pardeshi said the
BMC efforts were paying off. “This is very encouraging for us who have been working hard to increase the doubling time. We want to further extend the same to 14 days to ensure the curve flattens,” he said.
The central team also found nine wards where the doubling time had decreased. In D ward, which includes Malabar Hill and parts of
Charni Road, the doubling rate had gone from 12 days to 10.6 days. Sone of the other wards were R-Central (Borivli), R-North (Dahisar), F-South (Parel), M-East (Govandi) and T ward (Mulund).
MLA and
corporator Rais Shaikh from Byculla said it would help if the BMC screened, isolated and tested as quickly as possible, especially in pockets witnessing an outbreak.
