LUCKNOW: Coming to the aid of
agriculture sector in the lockdown, the state government has released the first financial subsidy of Rs 100 crore for running of tubewells by farmers. The amount is part of the total allocation of Rs 1,200 crore to be given to the state power
department as part of subsidy for the fiscal year 2020-21.
In a communique sent to the agriculture
directorate, agriculture department has sought immediate issuance of certificate after utilising the amount. The directive assumes significance in the wake of harvesting of wheat in various parts of the state in the ongoing fiscal.
According to experts, farm economy has faced a severe hit after lockdown halted transportation which, in turn, stagnated the harvest. Further, during the peak harvest, the produce could not reach mandis, thus disrupting the supply chain. The pandemic has given rise to several challenges in procurement operations as well. Besides, the sale of dairy products such as milk and egg has also got impacted.
The agriculture department said the amount released would be withdrawn from the state exchequer as per the need. It will have to be ensured that the amount has not been sanctioned by the state government under any other head, nor it could be used for any other work.
As per the communique, sanctioned amount will have to be spent within limits while following various restriction imposed by the budget manual and standards of financial propriety. Also, directions have been issued to the directorate to take prior permission from the authority concerned before utilizing the released amount. The names of the beneficiaries have to be uploaded on the department’s website.
