GREATER NOIDA: The quarantine facility set upat
Galgotias University in
Greater Noida is in the news once again for all the wrong reasons. This time, a
Canara Bank official, who was quarantined at the university’s isolation facility two days ago, has complained of serious mismanagement there.
In an 8-minute video, the 26-year-old bank official has pointed out that no doctor comes for counselling of the patients kept in the quarantine facility. He has also alleged that the patients are in distress because of the unhygienic conditions of the rooms and irregular distribution of food at the facility, due to which at least 10 people go hungry daily.
In fact, the bank official, who is posted in Delhi but lives in Noida, volunteered for the
Covid-19 test after experiencing breathing difficulties, along with flu-like symptoms, on Monday. “Doctors at GIMS told me the quarantine wards there were full so they shifted me to Galgotias. But when I reached there, the management made me wait for three hours before allotting me a room that had dust all over and a plate with leftover food,” he said.
According to him, the facility is mismanaged. “For instance, lunch is served between 3pm and 4pm, and the supplies also fall short every day due to which at least 10 patients go hungry,” he alleged.
The video comes days after a 32-year-old man in quarantine at the facility had allegedly committed suicide. Over 200 patients are currently quarantined at the university.
AK Singh, the facility’s chief development officer, said the man has been shifted to a paid quarantine facility after the video surfaced. His test results are awaited. “We condemn the video. We are going through a medical emergency in which we can’t expect doctors to visit them every day. However, every complaint is being addressed sincerely by us," he said.
