GUWAHATI: Two persons in quarantine, which includes a 16-year-old girl, tested positive for Covid-19 in
Assam on Tuesday after being infected through secondary transmission from contacts with Nizamuddin-linked positive persons. The state’s positive cases have now climbed to 37 among which there are nine active cases.
The girl from Salmara in Bongaigaon district, which was in green zone, had come in contact with her grandfather who had tested positive after returning from the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamudin Markaaz. The other positive person is from Goalpara.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “A person from Goalpara district, secondary contact of a Markaz attendee, has tested #COVID positive. The number of #COVID19 patients in Assam now stands at 37. Active hospital cases 9.”
Officials said the girl had tested positive after three rounds of nasal and swab tests. “She was in home quarantine after she was found to have come in contact with her grandfather, who is now a positive case. She is asymptomatic and we have shifted her to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Covid-19 hospital in Guwahati. Her family of five members have also been now quarantined in Bongaigaon Civil Hospital,” an official said.
Since April 16, five positive cases have been reported and all of them are patients of secondary transmission from Nizamuddin-linked positive persons
