The central government has asked all its employees to download the Aarogya Setu app immediately on their mobile phones and should self isolate for 14 days if the status shows 'moderate' or 'high risk'.

Those working in the Central government will have to review their status on the App before they start for office and continue only when the app shows "safe" or "low risk" status.

According to the office memorandum issued on Wednesday, the department of personnel and training (DoPT) makes it clear that in case the App shows a meesage that he/she has a moderate or high risk calculated on the basis of recent contact with the infected person (bluetooth proximity) he/she should not come to office and "self isolate for 14 days or till the status becomes safe or low risk," it said.

The effective use of the App will help break the chain of transmission of Covid-19, stated the notice. "The ministries, departments may issue similar directions to all autonomous , statutory bodies, PSUs," it further said.

Earlier in April, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government had come up with the Covid-19 tracking app Aarogya Setu. The National Informatics Centre that comes under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has developed the Aarogya Setu app.

The app is aimed at informing people about the relevant advisories pertaining to the containment of Covid-19.

The app helps users identify if they are at risk of coronavirus infection by asking if they have even by mistake come in contact with a Covid-19 infected person.
