Two snatching incidents reported in Ambala despite lockdown

AMBALA: Despite the lockdown imposition, two snatching cases have been registered in Ambala district on Tuesday, in which the snatchers targeted two women, including a bank official and a staff nurse.
The women allegedly lost purse, cash, mobiles, and documents in these snatching incidents which took place under limits of Ambala Cantonment (Cantt) and Mahesh Nagar police stations in the Ambala district.
In the first case, Deepam Jain of Ambala Cantt, a bank official lodged a complaint with the police alleging, “I work at a bank in Ambala Cantt and on Tuesday, after getting free from office, I was starting my two-wheeler outside the bank. Suddenly, two bike-borne men came from Kabadi Bazaar side and snatched my mobile phone. I shouted for help and two policemen nearby attempted to catch them but the pillion rider attacked with an iron rod and sped away on their bike towards Geeta Gopal Chowk. The policemen Sunil Kumar and Mahipal got injured in the incident.”
Based on this complaint, a case against two unknowns has been registered under Section 188 (disobedience of orders of public servant) and 379-B (punishment for snatching while causing injury) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Ambala Cantt PS on Tuesday.
In the second case registered on Tuesday, Harpreet Kaur of a village in Ambala, a staff nurse at a designated Covid-19 hospital in Ambala Cantt, stated to the police, “On April 25 late evening, I was going home from hospital on my Activa. At around 8.30pm, when I reached near Sonu Tent House on Rampur-Sarasheri road, two Activa-borne youths came from behind, snatched my purse and fled away. I could not note down their vehicle number due to dust. After I shouted for help some villagers gathered but they could not catch them. My purse contained my dress, phone, around Rs 1,800, and some documents of the hospital.”
Based on this complaint, a case against two unknowns has been registered under Section 188, 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection dangerous to life), and 379-A (punishment for snatching) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Mahesh Nagar police station.
Ambala Cantonment DSP Ram Kumar said, “We are looking into the CCTV cameras footage and working to identify accused involved in these snatching incidents. Accused appears to be some habitual offender or drug addicts targeting women for money. So, they would be behind bars.”
