Gauhati University reschedules calendar, UG admissions by July 15

GUWAHATI: Even as uncertainty looms large over the re-opening of educational institutions amid the persisting threat of Covid-19, the Gauhati University (GU) on Tuesday announced that admissions to degree courses at the undergraduate (UG) level would be completed by July 15. However, the university said this is subject to the declaration of Class XII results.
A notification issued by the GU registrar said that steps have been taken to revise the examination and academic schedule of the university presuming that academic activities in the state would restart from June 1.
“The schedule may change subject to any mandatory/ recommendatory guidelines, if any, issued by the UGC and Government of Assam in due course of time,” read the GU notification.
It also stated that the second, fourth and sixth semester UG examinations would be held simultaneously in the month of July, as it is linked to new admissions for higher level studies.
All remaining internal examinations for UG courses would be assignment based and home assignment based. The notification further said UG and post graduate (PG) students, for whom lab based and field work based activities have been hampered due to the pandemic, may submit library and e-library based project work for the ongoing semester only.
It added that all PG examinations under GU would commence after August 15. For the UG level, all remaining internal examinations for the PG course would be assignment based and home assignment based.
The notification clarified that the new academic session for the PG level would start by September 15.
While the first and third semester PG classes would continue till December 18, study leave for the first and third semester students would be from December 19 to 27.
The GU further announced that examinations for the first and third semester PG classes would be held from December 28 and would be completed by January next year.
The B.Ed examinations would commence from the last week of July.
