A McDonald's employee has revealed what the hollow handle on the McFlurry spoon is really used for — and it has nothing to do with consumption.
The oddly-shaped spoon has baffled customers for years, with many believing the rectangular hollow handle was supposed to be a straw. But, without a hole at the bottom, they were never able to successfully sip out of it.
TikTok user @marzpire has cleared up the confusion by sharing a video of herself attaching the hollow end of the spoon to the McFlurry machine to demonstrate how it is used to mix candy into the ice cream.

Did you know? TikTok user @marzpire has revealed that the oddly-shaped McFlurry spoon is used to mix candy and cookie bits into the ice cream

How it works: The McDonald's employee cleared up the confusion by sharing a video of herself demonstrating how the hollow end of the spoon attaches to the McFlurry machine
'Have you ever wondered why you can't drink out of a McFlurry spoon???' she captioned the clip, which begins with her getting a close-up of the spoon's famous hollow handle.
She pours vanilla ice cream into a McFlurry cup, puts on the lid, and tops it off with Oreo cookie bits. She then sticks the spoon inside and attaches the hollow end to the machine.
When she turns the machine on, the spoon begins to spin, and she moves the cup around to make sure the cookie bits are mixed throughout the ice cream.

Clever: When attached to the machine, the spoon begins to spin and blends the ice cream with the candy

Say what? While some people were aware of the spoon's real purpose, others were amazed by the discovery and admitted the used to try to drink out of it
'What the spoon is really for...To Mix!!' she wrote at the end.
The short clip has been viewed more than 326,000 times and has received over 2,000 comments since it was posted on April 12.
While some people were aware of the spoon's real purpose, others were amazed by the discovery.
'Wow! I swear I've learned so much of TikTok,' one person wrote, while another added: 'I literally got a McFlurry yesterday and was wondering about the spoon.'
