NAVI MUMBAI:With over 60% of coronavirus positive cases reported in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) area having travel history to Mumbai, mayor Jaywant Sutar has shot off a mail to Maharashtra chief minister, expressing concerns over the spread of virus due to those travelling daily for variety of emergency services.
The mayor told TOI that he had written to the CM suggesting that those from the city working in Mumbai (doctors, nurses, bankers, drivers, etc) returning home had majorly caused spread of infection. Therefore, those with daily travel requirement to Mumbai should stay in Mumbai, and not return to the city, he wrote.
Sutar said out of 145 positive cases (till Monday), 92 were related to Mumbai city. It was so because 15 doctors and nurses from the NMMC area working in Mumbai city got the virus and in turn, infected another 77, including their family members, besides others.
There were seven more related to Mumbai travel earlier this month. This included the woman from Ghansoli who tested positive and delivered a child at the civic hospital.
A family of four from Nerul (now recovered) got infected when the male earning member carried the infection home from his office in Mumbai, while two persons in the city working for the same office got infected through the driver.
