CHANDIGARH: In a first of its kind, a marriage was solemnised in the city with minimal guest due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Kirti and Sumit Goyal, both work at the Punjab and Haryana high court, tied the knot at Kirti’s home in Sector 38 West, Cha ndigarh, with the presence of only five people, including three from Kirti’s side, while two from Sumit’s side.
They said the date of the marriage was decided before the pandemic.
Madhubala Sharma, Kirti’s mother, said, “I had planned a lot of things for my daughter’s wedding, but due to the
lockdown, the marriage had to be concluded this way. Also, my son, who is in Bengaluru, couldn’t attend the ceremony.”
Meanwhile, Shashi Goyal, Sumit’s mother, said, “We all had planned a great wedding for my only son, but we understood the circumstances and we are very happy with the decision.”
“We had sought permission for 10 people from the UT DC, but we got it for only five. Around 30 relatives as well as our friends were on a group video call for two hours,” said Sumit, a resident of Sector 23, Chandigarh.
