Cricketer Umar Akmal has been handed a three-year ban by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from all forms of cricket on corruption charges.

While this news has got mixed reviews, Umar's brother and Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal is staying by his side.

Kamran told Pakistan media that it was a harsh call and he will challenge the decision.

"PCB's decision is surprising,” Kamran said. “We are waiting for detailed decision after which we will decide what to do next,” he added.

“Definitely it is hard to understand because other players in the past have got short bans for similar offenses. Yet Umar has got such a harsh punishment,” he said.

Umar Akmal has been banned under the PCB Anti-Corruption Code. He is charged with two breaches of Article 2.4.4. The 29-years-old cricketer was suspended with immediate effect just a day before the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 5.

The wicketkeeper was once considered the future of the Pakistan team, but Umar has been in the limelight for all wrong reasons.

Celebrated commentator Ramiz Raja, following the news, lashed out at Umar, saying he is the lastest addition to the ‘list of idiots’.
