LNP member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts has resigned from his shadow ministry roles after being fined for breaching coronavirus restrictions at the weekend.

In a statement issued late on Tuesday, opposition leader Deb Frecklington said Mr Watt had informed her he had "been fined today" after a gathering which took place on Saturday.

"I expect the highest standards from my team, especially my shadow ministers," she said. "I want to thank Trevor for his shadow ministerial service and his honesty in advising me of this issue."

Mr Watts, who held the opposition's corrective services, police and counter-terrorism portfolios, will be replaced by former police officer and Ninderry MP Dan Purdie.

Nicklin MP Marty Hunt will take on Mr Purdie's assistant treasury spokesperson role.

"I am determined to see the Queensland economy restarted as soon as possible and to do that everyone needs to follow the coronavirus directions," Ms Frecklington said.
