30 held for attacking health workers in Ambala

The accused have been sent to 14-day judicial custody
AMBALA: The Ambala police on Monday booked 54 identified and around 140 unknown residents of Chandpura village for allegedly breaking lockdown norms and attacking government officials while obstructing cremation of a suspected Covid-19 patient.
After the incident, some villagers were rounded-up on Monday, and on Tuesday, the police arrested 30 people. All the arrested accused have been sent to judicial custody as per court orders, police said.
The case was registered late on Monday on the complaint of Rajesh Kumar, secretary, Ambala Sadar Municipal Council (MC), who alleged that the villagers gathered in a large number and obstructed the government officials from performing their duties.
The Ambala police registered a case under strict and relevant Sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, Disaster Management Act, and Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Mahesh Nagar police station (PS) on Monday.
On this complaint, a case against 54 identified and around 140 unidentified people was filed under charges of rioting, attempt to murder, obstructing public servants from the discharge of duty, disobedience of orders of a public servant, negligent act likely to spread disease dangerous to life, and others of the IPC and of other relevant laws.
"We have arrested 30 accused, including 3 women on Tuesday, and they were presented in the district court, which sent them to 14-day judicial custody at the Ambala Central Jail. Further investigation is being done," Ambala Cantonment DSP Ram Kumar said.
