Hotel Management Courses: Things you should know

The hotel management industry has been growing by leaps and bounds over the years. As a result of vast expansion and modernisation of the country’s hospitality industry, the Ministry of Tourism established the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) to provide the resources and central thrust to the programme.

The hotel management and catering education programmes have gained tremendous popularity among the hospitality industry as the courses offered by the National Council are of international standard.

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Hospitality and Hotel Administration course is offered jointly by the National Council for Hotel Management and the IGNOU. The Three-Year (Six Semester) course aims to equip students with all the relevant skills, knowledge, and attitude to pursue a career in the Hospitality sector. The course includes in-depth laboratory work for students to learn the knowledge and skill standards in the operational areas of Food Production, Food & Beverage Service, Front Office Operation, and Housekeeping.

This course also provides managerial inputs in Hotel Accountancy, Food Safety & Quality, Human Resource Management, Facility Planning, Financial Management, Strategic Management, Tourism Marketing, and Management.

The B.Sc.HHA program (Generic & Vegetarian) is available along with the Vegetarian candidates in all the affiliated Institute of Hotel Management and only vegetarian practical option is also available for vegetarian candidates. However, other theory classes will be at par with the other students.

Eligibility for Admission

  • 10+2 system of Senior Secondary examination or its equivalent with English as one of the subjects.
  • Candidates should have passed English as a subject of study (core/elective/functional) in the qualifying examination.
  • Those appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination can also write NCHM JEE 2020 on a provisional basis.
  • Provisional admission will stand cancelled if proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) is not submitted at the time of counselling or at the time of admission or latest by 30.09.2020.
  • The offer of admission is subject to verification of original certificates/documents at the time of admission.
  • If any candidate is found ineligible at a later date even after admission to an Institute, his/her admission will stand cancelled.

Candidates should note that the above eligibility criteria are for NCHM JEE 2020 (admission in the 2020 academic year).
