2.7k-Mile Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster Is A Proper German Exotic

Mercedes launched the 722 Edition model three years after first putting the SLR Coupe into production, meaning 2006. The Roadster variant made its debut in September of 2007, while the 722 S Roadster went on sale in January of 2009.

The latter featured a limited production run of 150 units, with just 24 examples sold as new in the United States. This one, finished in Crystal Antimony Grey, is up for auction on Bring a Trailer.

The story behind the SLR 722 Edition takes us back to the Mille Miglia in 1955 and Stirling Moss’ victory in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number ‘722’ – indicating the 7:22 AM start time.

Unlike the regular SLR, the 722 version puts down 641 HP (650 PS) and 605 lb-ft (820 Nm) of torque, though from the same 5.4-liter supercharged V8. This being the Roadster variant, it also utilizes the same folding roof mechanism as the standard drop-top SLR.

Meanwhile, aero enhancements include the larger carbon fiber front splitter, a revised carbon fiber rear diffuser, wheel spoilers and a different extension angle for the rear airbrake.

Inside, this special edition SLR Roadster comes with black semi-aniline leather, Alcantara, red stitching (and rear seat belts), plus carbon fiber accents throughout.

As for performance, the previously-stated power output meant that the 722 S had 24 extra horses than the standard model, which together with the AMG Speedshift R five-speed automatic transmission, took you from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.7 seconds, before maxing out at 208 mph (334 km/h).

This car is being sold with just 2,700 miles (4,345 km) on the clock.
