Covid-19: No hike in school fees for academic session 2020-21 in UP

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday issued instructions to all schools, public and private, to not hike fees in the academic session 2020-21. The decision came into being considering the current situation due to coronavirus outbreak and Pan-India lockdown.
UP’s deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, who also holds the education portfolio made this announcement following a meeting he chaired with secondary education officials. As per the government order, schools have been instructed not to increase fees in this academic session. Parents have to pay fees according to the fee slab set for 2019-20 academic session.
The decision, reads the order, has been taken considering the fact that many are grappling with reduced earnings due to the lockdown. The move will bring relief to parents who suffered pay cuts or had low business turnover due to the pandemic shutdown and are facing issues in paying the school fees.
“This definitely will help us in saving some pennies in this extraordinary times. The government’s decision has given us some respite,” said Pritam Singh, a parent who has three school going children.
The order, which applies to all schools, run by different boards, including Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). Schools who have charged the increased amount are directed to adjust the extra fees in the upcoming months.
