FALL RIVER – A fourth city resident has died from COVID-19, according to Mayor Paul Coogan.

Fall River now has 415 confirmed cases of the virus, with an increase of 38 new cases since Sunday.

“Testing numbers are climbing and so are our confirmed cases,” Coogan said on social media. “We are still in the surge, so hang tough.”

There have also been a number of cases of COVID-19 reported in local long-term care facilities.

Kimwell Nursing & Rehabilitation, 495 New Boston Road, now has confirmed cases reported as less than 10, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The National Guard was on site last week testing all 112 residents and all staffers after two staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

The DPH reports cases of two or more in long-term care facilities. The department reports them as being under 10, between 10 and 30, and over 30 cases.

Clifton Assisted Living Community in Somerset also has reported cases of 10 or fewer. Brandon Woods, Dartmouth, and the Arbors at Taunton each have more than 30 cases of novel coronavirus. Autumn Glen Assisted Living in Dartmouth has under 10 cases.

The novel coronavirus is especially dangerous to older people and those living in congregate settings like nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, and assisted living residences.

Of the total 3,003 deaths in Massachusetts, 1,698 occurred among those living and working in long-term care facilities, which accounts for nearly 57 percent of all COVID-19 fatalities in the state.

Some 10,635 residents and workers in 308 long-term care facilities in the state have tested positive.

The average age of those hospitalized with COVID-19 is 69. The average age of those who have passed is 82.

The state has tested a total of 19,735 residents and workers.

Statewide, there were 104 new deaths reported by the DPH on Monday.

The state counted 1,524 new cases of COVID-19 for a confirmed total of 56,462.

Bristol County has 3,068 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus and 137 deaths.

Plymouth County is a bit higher with 4,607 total cases and 240 deaths.

There are 1,089 patients in intensive care units throughout the state.

Local hospitals have their share of patients.

Charlton Memorial Hospital is caring for 32 patients with novel coronavirus, including 10 in intensive care. St. Anne’s Hospital has one patient, and none in ICU.

St. Luke’s in New Bedford reported 46 patients, including seven in the ICU.

In Taunton, Morton Hospital has reported 84 patients with novel coronavirus, including 19 in the ICU.
