MUMBAI: A CBI team on Sunday reached Mahabaleswar and arrested “absconding” DHFL promoter Kapil Wadhawan and his brother Dheeraj Wadhawan alias Baba Dewan in a fraud case involving Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor. The move came after the special CBI court vacated the stay on their arrest on Saturday.
Last week, the institutional quarantine of the Wadhawans and their staff, who had been travelling from Khandala to Mahabaleshwar in violation of the lockdown, ended. On Thursday, they were shifted from Panchgani and placed in 14-day home quarantine at their farmhouse in Mahabaleshwar.
On April 8, the Wadhawans had managed to travel with the help of a letter issued by IPS officer Amitabh Gupta, who was principal secretary (special) in the home department.
Addressing the state on social media on Sunday, home minister Anil Deshmukh said additional chief secretary Manoj Saunik had submitted the inquiry report on the incident. The report will now be submitted to CM Uddhav Thackeray.
Without taking names, Deshmukh slammed BJP, saying the party shouldn’t politicise the issue. The Wadhawans will be produced before court on Monday for remand hearing.
