TIRUPATI: After Andhra Pradesh government officials raised objections over Tamil Nadu government building concrete walls in the middle of the roads near inter-state borders, the Tamil Nadu government budged to the pressure and announced that it will demolish the walls immediately and open up the inter-state roads.
Amidst the ongoing nationwide lockdown to prevent the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Tamil Nadu state government has built concrete walls in the middle of the roads leading to Andhra Pradesh at three places along the AP-TN border overnight.
Concrete walls measuring three feet in width and five feet in height, came up at two places near Vellore and one at Tiruttani.
Following an order from Vellore district collector A Shanmuga Sundaram, two concrete walls were built at Sainagunta and Ponnai (Maathandukuppam) checkposts, while one other came up near Settithangal near Tiruttani.
The action of the Tamil Nadu state government officials did not go down well with their Andhra Pradesh counterparts especially at a point of time when the government of India and several state governments were actively considering easing down the lock-down measures.
Chittoor district collector Dr Narayana Bharat Gupta who was informed about concrete walls being built in the middle of the roads on the Tamil Nadu side along Chittoor district, who spoke to the Vellore district collector and other senior officials in the Tamil Nadu government on the issue, expressed his reservations and appealed to them to open up the roads immediately.
Responding to Chittoor district collector's appeal, the Tamil Nadu government promised to bring down the concrete walls in the middle of the roads along AP-TN border immediately.
Speaking to TOI, Chittoor collector Dr Narayana Bharat Gupta confirmed that the issue with the Tamil Nadu state government was amicably resolved and hoped that the concrete walls built on the roads blocking entry and exit to Andhra Pradesh will be brought down with immediate effect.
