MUMBAI: City's first citizen and mayor, Kishori Pednekar on Monday was seen putting on the nurse's uniform once again as she went to motivate nursing students from a civic run medical college who have been roped in to help the BMC in their fight against Covid-19 in Mumbai.
Pednekar is a former nurse who worked at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust Hospital (JNPT) in Uran.
The BMC recently roped in nursing students from civic run medical colleges in the city in their battle against Covid-19.
Following the same, Pednekar said she received several concerns of nursing students and their parents on how they could get infected by the virus at a young age. However, Pednekar said she decided to go to their institutions and motivate them on how this was an opportunity instead for them to learn while working in a crisis.
She told TOI had I gone back as a mayor before them they would have probably not been able to relate to me and therefore I asked for a nurse's uniform from the hospital staff and put it on myself. "Having worked as a nurse for over ten years at the JNPT hospital (1993-2003) I know well what their concerns would be and therefore told them to treat working in pandemic situation as such as an opportunity to serve the country instead," she said.
Pednekar, 58, a three time Shiv Sena corporator was elected as Mumbai mayor last Novemeber.
