One McDonald's employee confirmed in the thread: 'I'm a Maccas worker. They are exactly the same buns as the cheeseburger ones. They just won't be toasted, you will have to toast them yourself.'

While another McDonald's worker claimed customers can buy pickles separately if they ask at the counter.

'If you want pickles from Maccas just ask to buy some separate at Maccas. They will do it for you. I work at Maccas and they do it,' she said.

The homemade burgers comes just weeks after McDonald's announced it will sell basic ingredients such as milk, bread and eggs to help Australians get hold of everyday essentials during the coronavirus pandemic.

'We're pleased to be able to continue to expand this offering to help the community safely access essential items like milk, bread and eggs, as well as their usual Macca's favourites,' McDonald's recently said in a statement.

'Over the coming week, we'll be adding another basic essential to our menu, making cartons of eggs available to our customers.

'Anyone who comes to a Macca's for our contactless drive-thru or takeaway service will now be able to pick-up milk, English muffins, bread rolls and eggs.'
