Career opportunities after B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering

Engineering is one of the most sought-after professions today. If you specialise in some of the latest technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learnings, Internet of Things, Blockchain, it will further enhance your career prospects.
Mechanical Engineering (ME) is one of the core branches of engineering and also it is considered to be the toughest branch. Like other branches of engineering, the candidates who do B. Tech in Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering, have enough opportunity in the govt as well as private sector.
Once you have graduated, you can either go for higher studies related to the field like pursuing masters in design or production or thermal. Candidates can also do MBA after B. Tech.
For Higher Studies
Designing: The candidates who are interested in designing can go for post graduation courses like - PRO-E, SOLIDWORKS, CREO, AutoDesk, SOLIDEDGE etc. Here you will learn drafting the technical drawings, design criterion with the help of computer aided systems or manually.
Production: You can do your masters in production section CastWorks (for casting applications), ASME-NDT or the online GD&T Certificate Course.
Through Campus Selection
Most of the mechanical engineering students get hired by good companies through campus placements. For getting selected through campus placement, the candidates need not to clear any entrance examination or test like GATE. Many big companies like Infosys, Wipro, TCS higher candidates by visiting college campus directly.
Pursue Higher Studies or get selected through GATE Scores
Candidates can go for higher studies by cracking GATE exam. Through GATE scores a candidates can secure a seat for himself/herself in premier institutes like IITs or IISc and can pursue higher studies in courses like - Automobile Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Energy Engineering & Management, Engineering Design, Computer Aided Design & Manufacturing, Product Design and Development, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Material Technology etc.
Through good rank in GATE you can get a decent job in PSUs like IOCL, NTPC, BPCL, OIL, NHPC, OIL, GAIL, BHEL, MECL, MDL, NLC, NFL and etc. Generally PSUs offer Rs 10 lakh+ package for starters.
UPSC ESE
You can also apply for the Engineering Services Exam (ESE) through the Union Public Service Commission. Remember the UPSC ESE competition is tough but if selected you will be one of the topmost technocrats of the country.
State Engineering Services
Like PCS, some states also conduct their own examination for the recruitment of graduate engineer trainees. The exam is similar to the UPSC ESE.
