GHAZIABAD: The health departments of Noida and Ghaziabad were embroiled in a jurisdiction issue over a Covid-19 patient through Sunday. Officials in the two administrations insisted that the patient should be added to the tally of the other district. She was, however, admitted to a hospital in Delhi later in the day.
The Covid patient is a woman, who stays with her husband in Noida’s Salarpur. Her samples were collected on April 20 and she was put under home quarantine there. However, the woman came to her mother’s place in Ghaziabad’s Khoda on Saturday night in violation of the quarantine protocol.
Sources said when the Noida health department informed the woman on Sunday that she had been found to have Covid, she and her mother went back to Salarpur. Meanwhile, the Ghaziabad health department was informed that a woman who had come to Khoda had tested positive. A rapid response team reached Khoda and found the house locked.
Later, when it was confirmed that the woman had returned to Salarpur, the Noida health department sent an ambulance to her home. The woman, who had already tested positive, and her mother were brought to MMG District Hospital allegedly in the same vehicle.
Ghaziabad chief medical officer NK Gupta said the woman should not have been sent to MMG hospital but should have been admitted to a health facility in Noida itself since she her samples had been collected there.
Deepak Ohri, Noida chief medical officer, said the woman had mentioned Khoda as her residential address. “She had been living in Khoda prior to April 20 and had come to Noida for some treatment. Her close contacts were in Khoda and contact tracing should be done there,” Ohri said.
