FALL RIVER — An 18-year-old city man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he was reportedly stabbed in the arm Saturday evening by one of two males who approached him near Blackstone and Tecumseh streets and who then stole his backpack, which contained “small amounts” of marijuana and money, police said.
The victim reported the stabbing to Fall River Police Officer Nicholas Soule on Sunday, Detective John Robinson, a police spokesman, said in an email. The victim said that about 7 p.m. the day before, two males wearing all black clothing and masks approached and demanded he hand over his “stuff.”
According to Robinson, the victim said one of the suspects “jabbed” at him with a knife, then stole his backpack, which contained “small amounts of marijuana and cash.” The victim suffered at least one laceration to his left hand and was stabbed in his left arm.
Robinson said the victim told police that he did not immediately go to the hospital due to concerns about COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
The victim went to a local hospital Sunday after waking up with numbness in his arm, and called the police after he was released, the spokesman said.
Robinson said that investigators do not believe the incident was random.
