PATIALA: The police in
Patiala have arrested four
homeless persons for allegedly committing theft at several shops in two areas of the city overnight, however, the accused thieves could not get any big amount of cash as the owners had left behind only a small amount of Indian currency in the form of coins.
The police said that all four accused were arrested on Monday evening after they were spotted in the CCTV cameras during an investigation into the matter. The police said that the accused committed theft during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday after carrying out a survey for three to four days about the shops and the areas closed since the lockdown.
The case was registered against the accused under sections of theft on the complaint of shopkeepers including a jeweller in the factory area, however, the thieves could steal only three artificial items of ornaments from the
jewellery shop. Similarly in from another shop they could get coins amounting to Rs 1000 from the money box of
Harinder Kumar’s shop, 16 Engine Oil boxes and Rs 500 from the shop of Harbhajan Auto care centre, Rs 250 from Rajesh Sweets at factory area and five mobiles from a mobile repair shop near Dukh Nivaran Sahib in Patiala city.
The police said that the accused also broke the lock of the Karyana gate and collected a number of items in order to steal they but they heard a police siren following which they left the place immediately. The police said that before collecting and keeping the general store items collectively at one place the accused had already stolen Rs 150 from the money box of the Karyana shop.
"We have recovered four mobiles, a cylinder, a small amount of cash and coins from the accused. The accused are identified as Sonu of Bihar, Buta Singh of local Patiala city, Subhreet of Gurbaksh colony and Manoj of factory area in Patiala. All these accused used to sleep on the footpaths near Khanda Chowk in the city. The accused had confessed their crime but they did not have any criminal background or any case registered against them in the past. They will be produced before the local court by Tuesday”, said, Investigating Officer in the case ASI Lakhwinder Singh.
