Volkswagen re-starts Europe's largest car factory after coronavirus shutdown
- Volkswagen the world's largest carmaker by sales, on Monday said it had resumed work at its biggest factory in Wolfsburg, Germany, to give its workers time to adapt to new hygiene measures to combat the coronavirus.
- Encouraged by a fall in infection rates, Germany eased lockdown rules and carmakers are relying on the country's ability to trace and contain the coronavirus to put Europe's largest economy back to work.
- In Wolfsburg, around 8,000 workers started building cars again on Monday, including the VW Golf. This week 1,400 cars will be built, followed by 6,000 cars in a fortnight, VW said.

Coronavirus cases in Pakistan rises to 13,328; death toll 281
- Pakistan's coronavirus cases have climbed to 13,328 while the death toll from the pandemic has reached 281 with 12 more fatalities, the health ministry said on Monday.
- According to the Ministry of National Health Services, more than 3,000 people have recovered from the contagion.
- The ministry said that Punjab has reported 5,446 cases, Sindh 4,615, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 1,864, Balochistan 781, Gilgit-Baltistan 318, Islamabad 245 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 59 cases.
Punjab police launches campaign to show solidarity with colleague whose hand was chopped
- All police personnel in Punjab will on Monday wear badges with the name of their colleague Harjeet Singh, whose left hand was chopped off in an attack when he was trying to impose lockdown restrictions in the state, to show solidarity with him and others working on the frontline amid difficult circumstances to control the spread of COVID-19.
- The day-long campaign is called 'MainBhiHarjeetSingh'.
Odisha appoints senior IAS officers as COVID-19 observers in charge of districts
- Ahead of the arrival of about 5 lakh migrant workers stranded in different states due to lockdown imposed to contain COVID-19 pandemic, Odisha government has set up dedicated teams of bureaucrats to look after specific areas.

Centre should arrange for migrant workers to go home: Sena
- The Shiv Sena on Monday said it is the Centre's responsibility to make arrangements for sending migrant labourers to their native places in the wake of the lockdown enforced to contain the spread of coronavirus.
- Several migrant labourers have been residing in the coronavirus hotspots of Mumbai's Dharavi slum area, it noted.
Inox Wind resumes production at all three manufacturing plants
- Wind turbine maker Inox Wind Ltd on Monday said it has resumed operations at all three manufacturing plants.
- These plants are located at Barwani (Madhya Pradesh), Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and Una (Himachal Pradesh).
- In a regulatory fiing, Inox Wind said it has resumed operations at its three plants.

Novacyt signs coronavirus test supply contract with UK government
- Healthcare and clinical diagnostics company Novacyt has signed a supply contract with the UK's Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) for its product aimed at testing for the presence of the coronavirus, the company said on Monday.
- Under the terms of the agreement, Novacyt will supply its coronavirus test to the DHSC for an initial term of six months, starting from May 4.
- Novacyt has initially committed to supply 288,000 tests per week to the DHSC for use in the UK's National Health Service, with the option to expand the agreement.
China's Wuhan city discharges last COVID-19 patient from hospital
- The last COVID-19 patient in Wuhan has been discharged and the hospitals in the epicentre of the global coronavirus pandemic in the central Chinese city have no coronavirus cases for the first time after more than three months of arduous battle against the deadly virus that infected over 80,000 people on the mainland, health officials said.
- China's National Health Commission (NHC) announced on Monday that three new confirmed coronavirus cases, including two from the Chinese returning from abroad and one local transmission were reported on Sunday.

- Australian officials are pleased that more than 1 million people have downloaded an app designed to accelerate contact tracing for coronavirus despite some privacy concerns.

Andhra reports 80 new cases;' tally climbs to 1177
- Andhra Pradesh reported 80 new Covid positive cases on Monday, taking the total to 1177.
- The state reported 31 Covid deaths so far , while 235 were cured and discharged.
391 students reach Assam from Kota by bus; quarantined

RBI's Rs 50,000 crore Special Liquidity Facility for Mutual Funds (SLF-MF)
- This special repo window will be available to all LAF eligible banks against eligible collateral and can be availed only for on-lending to Mutual funds.
- The eligible banks may place their bids electronically on the CBS platform between 9 AM and 12.00 Noon every day.
- An LAF Repo issue will be created every day for the amount remaining under the scheme (Amount remaining Rs 50,000 crores-cumulative amount availed up to the previous day).
- The bidding process, settlement and reversal of SLF-MF repo would be similar to the existing system being followed in case of LAF/MSF.
- In case of over-subscription of the notified amount on any given day, the allotment will be done on pro-rata basis. RBI will, however, reserve the right to inject marginally higher amount than the notified amount due to rounding effects.
- The minimum bid amount would be Rupees one crore and multiples thereof. The allotment would be in multiples of Rupees one crore.
- A market participant can place bids of amount less than or equal to the notified amount of the issue announced on a given day.
- RBI will reject bids of the participant if the total bid amount submitted by the participant exceeds the notified amount of the issue.
- The amount utilized as on previous date will be informed to market participants in the Money Market Operations (MMO) press release.
- The eligible collateral and the applicable haircuts will remain the same as applicable for LAF.
- All other terms and conditions as applicable to LAF operations, including facility for security substitution in terms of extant guidelines dated April 12, 2017 will also be applicable to these special operations, mutatis mutandis.
- While banks will decide the tenor of lending to /repo with mutual funds, the minimum tenor of repo with RBI will be for a period of three months.

Funds availed under the SLF-MF shall be used by banks exclusively for meeting the liquidity requirements of MFs by
- extending loans
- undertaking outright purchase of and/or repos against the collateral of investment-grade corporate bonds, commercial papers (CPs), debentures and certificates of Deposit (CDs) held by MFs
Under the SLF-MF, the RBI shall conduct repo operations of 90 days tenor at the fixed repo rate
- The SLF-MF is on-tap and open-ended, and banks can submit their bids to avail funding on any day from Monday to Friday (excluding holidays). The scheme is available from today i.e., April 27, 2020 till May 11, 2020 or up to utilization of the allocated amount, whichever is earlier. The Reserve Bank will review the timeline and amount, depending upon market conditions.

Mumbai reels under bed shortage as private hospitals remain shut
- It’s been nearly three weeks since five large hospitals in Mumbai were sealed after Covid-19 was found among medical staff.
- With the city reeling under the onslaught of the novel coronavirus, and more healthcare workers getting infected, its already overstretched healthcare system has come under more strain with shortage of beds and professionals to take care of the ill.
- The sealing of Wockhardt and Jaslok hospitals has taken nearly 800 beds out of the system.
- Both hospitals have still not indicated when they will open their facilities for treatment.

- The number of Germany's confirmed coronavirus cases increased by 1,018 to 155,193, data from the Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases showed on Monday.

MP manufacturing 12,000 PPE kits every day: Official
- Madhya Pradesh is manufacturing 12,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits per day for frontline warriors battling COVID-19, as against its daily requirement of 10,000 kits, a government official has said.
- Since the coronavirus outbreak, 1.5 lakh PPE kits have so far been manufactured in the state and out of these, about 75,000 each have been sent to Indore and Bhopal, State Industrial Development Centre's Managing Director Kumar Purushottam said.

South Korea mulls reopening schools
- South Korea reported only 10 new cases of the coronavirus, its 26th straight day below 100 as officials mulled reopening schools amid the slowing caseload.
- The figures released by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday brought the national totals to 10,738 cases and 243 deaths.
- At least 1,044 infections have been linked to international arrivals, but such cases have also declined in recent weeks amid tightened border controls.
Rafael Nadal says he's 'very pessimistic' about return of tennis
- Rafael Nadal said that he was "very pessimistic" over a full resumption of the professional tennis circuit which has been halted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Italy's PM delays Serie A restart decision
- Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte delayed a decision on restarting Serie A football but gave the green light for top athletes to resume training in a week's time.
- Conte unveiled the first details of how the country will emerge from a lockdown aimed at halting the spread of the coronavirus pandemic that has officially claimed more than 26,000 lives in Italy and 200,000 worldwide.
- He said individual athletes would be allowed to resume training on May 4. Teams could start to train together again on May 18.
Bank of Japan to expand stimulus again as pandemic pain deepens
- The Bank of Japan is expected to expand monetary stimulus on Monday for the second straight month to ease corporate funding strains and finance huge government spending aimed at combating the deepening economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.
- Such a move would put the BOJ in line with other major central banks that have unleashed unprecedented amounts of monetary support amid the health crisis.
