NEW DELHI: The number of Covid-19
cases is close to 27,000-mark, with the highest single-day increase being reported. According to the health ministry statistics, the highest single-day increase was registered with close to 2,000 cases. At 5 pm on Sunday, Maharashtra had recorded 7,628 cases.
The number of cases in the western state is now as high as the total tally of Gujarat, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh — the other three states with the most number of Covid-19 cases.
On Sunday, Madhya Pradesh’s death toll also crossed the 100-mark. MP is the third state after Maharashtra and Gujarat to cross this mark. Meanwhile, the recovery rate of Covid-19 patients across the country climbed to 21.97%. Kerala has the best recovery rate in the country at 74% — which means more people have recovered in the southern state than the number of active cases.
Other states also have recovery rates better than the national average. These include
Tamil Nadu (52.5%), Delhi (33.1%) and Rajasthan (23.66%). Other states with worse recovery rates than the national average are Maharashtra 14.1%, Gujarat 9.2%, MP 10% and UP 14.56%.
The first Covid-19 patient to be administered convalescent plasma
therapy in India was discharged from the hospital on Sunday. The 49-year-old patient had been admitted to the
Max Healthcare, Saket, on April 4, with moderate symptoms and a history of fever and respiratory issues. His condition deteriorated and he developed pneumonia. The patient’s family requested the hospital to use plasma therapy and arranged for a donor.
After receiving the treatment, the patient showed good results and was weaned off the ventilator. Max Healthcare group medical director Sandeep Budhiraja said, “We are delighted that the therapy worked well in his case, opening a new
treatment opportunity during these challenging times.
But it is important that we also understand that plasma therapy is no magic bullet… We cannot attribute 100% recovery to plasma therapy only, as there are multiple factors which carved his path to recovery.”
