MANGALURU:
Dakshina Kannada district broke a recent pattern of reporting a Covid-19 positive case every third day since April 19 in reporting its 19th positive case on Sunday. This comes on the back of the district reporting its 18th positive case on Saturday. Designated P-501, this 47-year-old woman from Narikombu village in
Bantwal taluk is a contact of P-432, who incidentally was the second patient in DK to succumb to the pandemic.
Coincidentally, P-501 is the only patient to figure in the state bulletin of positive cases reported from 5pm on April 25 to 12pm on April 26. Deputy Commissioner
Sindhu B Rupesh said P-501 has been admitted in the isolation ward of the district Wenlock Hospital, the designated Covid hospital. With this, the district has five active cases. Hitherto 12 patients have been discharged. The district has seen two deaths to the pandemic in P-432 and P-390.
P-501 was working as a helper in First Neuro Hospital at Padil on the city outskirts, where P-432, a septuagenarian stroke patient was admitted for treatment. She incidentally is the mother-in-law of P-390, the first patient to succumb to the virus in the district. Other active cases are husband-wife duo from Uppinangadi and P-409 who is on ventilator at the ICU at district Wenlock Hospital. P-489, daughter of P-409 is one who tested positive on Saturday.
The district administration has stepped up efforts to obtain the test reports of all the patients, staff and doctors at First Neuro Hospital. Dr
Ramachandra Bairy, district health officer told TOI that out of 177 swab reports of those in the hospital, the authorities here have received 157 reports and one of them was positive. “We are awaiting reports on the remaining swabs since some of them had to be sent to Bengaluru and other centres for testing,” Dr Bairy added.
