IAS officer Srinivas resigns from service

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior Kerala cadre IAS officer B Srinivas, who is currently on central deputation, has opted for voluntary retirement from the service.
An officer from 1991 batch of the IAS who is in the rank of principal secretary, he has opted for VRS with more than two more years to go before retirement. He is currently the managing director of national horticulture board under the ministry of agriculture, in the rank of additional secretary. On central deputation since March 2018, he was previously holding the post of joint secretary in the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises. In the state, Srinivas had served as the district collector in Kollam, and later as secretaries of education, health and family welfare and fisheries departments.
Srinivas is the third officer from the state cadre of IAS who has opted for voluntary retirement from the service. Earlier, 1986 batch IAS officer P G Tenzing had opted for voluntary retirement in 2007, to pursue his desire to tour the country on his bike. Former chief secretary V Krishnamurthy also had availed voluntary retirement just a day before he was slated to retire. Srinivas, hailing from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, told TOI that he has opted for VRS from the service due to personal reasons.
While some of the have opted for VRS, several IAS and IPS officers were “deemed resigned” from the service due to unauthorized absence from the service.
Former IAS couple from the state cadre belonging to 1984 batch, Sharafuddin and Tara, who had left the service to join private sector had to be terminated from the service after they failed to submit their resignation. M P Joseph, a 1978 batch IAS officer was removed from the service for not joining service after the expiry of the leave period granted to him.
