VARANASI: At least eight people, including seven policemen of Sigra police station in Varanasi, have been tested positive for coronavirus infection.
Of the total 95 test reports received by the district administration from BHU laboratory on Saturday, 87 others were found to be negative. Total number of patients in district reached to 34 of which eight have been discharged and one died. Now, 25 active cases are being treated at DDU district and BHU hospitals.
Disclosing Saurday’s reports, district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said that a sub-inspector, three head constables and three constables posted at Varanasi Municipal Corporation outpost of Sigra police station tested positive. Initially, the SI had developed sysmptoms after which all his subordinates stayed in outpost barrack were infected by him, he said adding, all of them had been quarantined at a guest house in Dashaswamedh area two days ago from where their samples were taken.
A 39-year-old trader of Lullapura also tested positive for the infection. He was sent to DDU district hospital while infected cops will be treated separately.
Contract tracing of all these eight people will begin from Sunday morning, he said.
