Patna Police on Saturday arrested the main accused who had opened fire in air killing a youth when NCC cadets had attempted to ensure social distancing at
Noon ka chauraha under
Khajekala police station area in
Patna city on Monday night.
Several anti-social elements had gathered at an empty plot at the spot when NCC cadets had reached there and attempted to ensure that people follow rules of social distancing amid lockdown for Covid-19. The anti-social elements had opened fire in air after spotting youth NCC cadets due to which a youth Sunny Kumar, standing in his balcony was injured. Sunny had died during treatment at a private hospital hours after the incident.
Police had already arrested Mohammad Anjum, his brother Mohammad Nasar and his wife, and their parents soon after the incident as they were named accused in the FIR.
City SP (east) Jitendra Kumar said Mohammad Chand was the sixth named accused who was evading arrest.
"Chand was hiding in Khajekala locality only. During interrogation after arrest, Chand confessed to had opened fire in air from which Sunny got injured,” he said.
SP said that Chand also said that he was in a lungi at the time of incident and fell down while fleeing misplacing his firearm.
SP Kumar said that the family of Sunny, who had hanged a board for selling their private residence after the incident, had already removed it.
"The family probably tried to create pressure on the police for getting the main accused arrested quickly. Patna City SDPO Manish Kumar had met the grieving family on Friday and had assured of all the necessary actions against culprit," SP said.
Kumar said that at least 50 police personnel along with officers and magistrates were presently deployed in by-lanes of Khajekala police station area for maintaining law and order as well as ensuring social distancing. "The forces were deployed after the incident took place on Monday. they would remain deployed till further orders," he added.
