Assam to decide on relaxation for shops on Monday

Himanta Biswa Sarma
GUWAHATI: Assam government on Saturday clarified that there is no relaxation on opening of all shops outside limits of municipal corporations amid the confusion over an MHA notification issued on Friday and the lockdown restrictions as spelt out in the MHA guidelines issued on April 15 will continue.
Assam health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The decision to allow or not allow the opening of shops in the state will be taken only at the state cabinet meeting on Monday. Only those shops like grocery and pharmacies that have been allowed to open in April 15 notification of MHA will be allowed to remain open. No other lockdown relaxations have been made in Assam.”
“I request all people to enforce lockdown strictly. I urge them to wait till April 27. We will decide whether all the shops to be opened or not on April 27 evening and if the shops allowed to open, then we will decide how many shops can be allowed to open, the timing for keeping each of these shops open,” Sarma said.
