
Malayalam actor Ravi Vallathol passed away at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. He was 67.
Vallathol made a mark in Malayalam show business as a writer, actor and television personality. A couple of years ago, he retired due to his health condition.
According to reports, Vallathol was undergoing treatment for Alzheimer’s at a Thiruvananthapuram hospital.
The members of Malayalam film industry shared fond memories of Ravi Vallathol.
Malayalam superstar Mammootty recalled that it was Vallathol who anchored his first interview for Doordarshan. “Ravi’s passing has caused me a lot of pain. He was a good friend. He was the first to take my interview for Doordarshan after I won my first state award,” he said.
“After that Ravi and I worked in many movies. We were also always in touch. Losing such a good friend has caused me a lot of pain,” the actor added.
Ravi Vallathol was the son of noted Malayalam author and dramatist TN Gopinathan Nair and the nephew of poet Vallathol Narayana Menon. He acted in more than 50 movies, including Swathi Thirunal, Oru Sayahnathinte Swapnam, Sargam, Dada Sahib, Nizhalkkuthu, Samantharangal and Pranayamanithooval among more. The actor also had a successful career in television spanning nearly 30 years. In addition to television acting, he also scripted many daily soaps.
Vallathol is survived by his wife Geethalakshmi.
