CHANDIGARH/JALANDHAR: Even as six-month-old girl from Ludhiana became youngest victim of Covid-19 in Punjab, 10 new Covid-19
cases were reported in the state on Thursday. With nine cases from Jalandhar and one from Mohali, the overall tally in Punjab rose to 285. The death toll also rose to 17.
In last 24 hours, 13 patients recovered and were dis-charged. Of 200 active cases, one patient is in critical condition and has been put on ventilator.
The infant had tested po-sitive for
coronavirus infection in PGIMER on Wednesday. The child was suffering from congenital heart dise-ase and was referred to PGIMER from a private hospital in Ludhiana for corrective surgery. She was due for sur-gery and as per protocol was tested corona virus and tes-ted positive.
Of the nine new cases, in Jalandhar, at least four are the fresh cases from the same organisation from where 11 persons have already tested positive. Other five are further contacts of the already known cases, again the same organisation.
Those are working at the same place include — two women aged 65 and 39 and two men aged 31and 32. A 70-year-old man, a 46-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman are further contacts of the already known patients from the same place. The two remaining patients are also men, aged 48 and 39. With these fresh cases, total number of Covid-19 pati-ents has risen to 62 in Ja-landhar.
In another equally badly hit district of Punjab — Mohali, one more case of Covid-19 surfaced at Adarsh Nagar in Nayagaon on Thursday. The positive pati-ent has been identified as 30-year-old men living in the same building where six persons have earlier tested positive. The man is a colleague of earlier positive case working at PGI.
Mahali deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan said the district’s count had reached 63, out of which 14 had been discharged. two persons have died, while 47 casses are active.
