Gujarat, the ninth most populated state in the country, stands at the sixth position in terms of spread of coronavirus in its districts. On March 19, the state reported its first two cases of Covid-19 from Rajkot and Surat. As of April 23, positive cases were reported from 27 more districts, taking the total number of infected districts to 29 out of 33.

Now, only Junagadh, Amreli, Surendaranagar and Dwarka are free of Covid-19. Dangs which was coronavirus-free till Thursday reported a case later in the evening.

According to data available on www.mygov.in/covid-19/ till 3 pm on April 23, coronavirus cases had been reported from 28 of 29 states in the country. Sikkim is the only state that has so far remained free of the infection. All districts in Kerala and Goa have reported positive cases. Besides these two states, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Maharashtra have reported greater spread of the virus. Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in the country, is at the 13th position on this list. Other states that are more populated that Gujarat but lower in the spread are Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka.

Percentage-wise, 87.87% of districts in Gujarat are infected. Goa and Kerala have reported 100% spread, while it is 94.59% in Tamil Nadu, 90.32% in Telangana and 88.88% in Maharashtra. Thirteen out of 28 infected states have 50% or lesser spread of the virus, with only 4% of the districts in Arunachal Pradesh reporting a positive case.

Deputy Chief Minister and state Health minister Nitin Patel, when asked about the spread of the virus in the state, refused to comment on the matter. Principal Health Secretary Dr Jayanti Ravi could not be contacted for a comment.
