285 people tested by RTTs to undergo throat swabs again

Ludhiana: With 1,050 rapid testing kits (RTT) received till Wednesday, 285 people who have undergone testing through RTTs at different spots of the city will have to undergo throat swabs again, as the RTTs were found to be faulty.
Deputy commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said, “It has been decided that people who have symptoms, like acute respiratory distress and fever, have to undergo throat swabs again.” It is pertinent to mention that out of 285 tests, 5 had turned out to be positive.
Four contacts of the ACP were tested through RTTs — a 46-year-old ASI, a 28-year-old woman SHO, another 54-year-old woman working as a district mandi officer, and the ACP’s 50-year-old wife.
As many as 765 RTTs are still with the health department. On April 16, the city received 50 kits, and a thousand more kits were received on April 19. While one kit was used on April 17, 19 were used on April 18, 9 on April 19, 22 on April 20, and 234 on April 21. From April 21, the kits were stopped after being found faulty. Throat swabs will begin in a day or two.
