Illegal liquor factory hiked production to meet demand during curfew: Probe

Ludhiana: A day after Khanna police arrested five persons for allegedly running an illicit liquor factory in a warehouse in Bahomajra village, police probe has “found” that they were manufacturing 1,000 boxes of liquor per day in the factory.
On Wednesday, Khanna police had booked Rajiv Gupta of Dugri-I in Ludhiana, Harwinder Singh, Chander Prakash and Jatinder Kumar, all of Ganga Nagar, Jatinderpal Singh of Khanna and a unidentified into the matter.
Khanna SSP Harpreet Singh said they are questioning the accused after getting their police remand from a local court.
Police officials during preliminary questioning, it was found that Harwinder was the mastermind of the gang and was wanted in many cases. They added that about three months ago, they were manufacturing 300-400 boxes (each box containing 12 bottles), but they increased the production to 1,000 boxes because of spike in demand of liquor due to the curfew.
Cops said the accused had brought the necessary machines from Saharanpur and most of them are well versed with the manufacturing of liquor.
Police officials said the accused had supplied liquor in Ludhiana, Samrala and Ferozepur area and even outside the state. They added that it is being probed as to how they were supplying the liquor despite curfew.
Police on Wednesday had seized 413 boxes of illicit liquor, 1,444 boxes of liquor in drums, 19 drums of spirit of 200 litres each (3800 litres total), 8000 unfilled bottles, 80 bags bottle caps, 250 litre scent, two large distilleries and the rest small machines. Police had also seized an Innova vehicle, a canter, a tractor trolley and Rs 5.82 lakh in cash.
