6 new coronavirus cases in Haryana, Rohtak village sealed

A health team arrives at Kakrana village to screen its population
CHANDIGARH/ROHTAK: Six new cases of coronavirus were reported in Haryana, taking the overall tally of cases to 270, including 3 deaths and 170 cured/discharged.
According to the media bulletin issued by the Haryana health department, four cases were reported from Gurugram and two from Rohtak.
In Rohtak, an elderly man and his wife were found positive, prompting the district administration to declare their native village Kakrana a containment zone. A team of district officials, led by deputy commissioner R S Verma and superintendent of police Rahul Sharma, sealed Kakrana. The 13 neighbouring villages around the hotspot were also declared buffer zone, where all movements barring that of essential commodities have been stopped.
The health department team has been directed to visit every household in Kakrana for thermal scanning and collecting samples of suspected patients with symptoms of Covid-19, said the deputy commissioner.
He said all villages would be thoroughly sanitised by the team present in the village. Verma said no person from outside would be permitted to enter village and the departments concerned would ensure supply of essential commodities like food, milk and other related things. The team would conduct screening, testing and quarantine as per requirements, he said.
Out of the couple found positive in the village, the 58-year-old male patient was getting treatment of cancer at a Delhi hospital and would visit there every fortnight. When he visited the hospital on April 20, he was found positive for Covid-19 and was referred to PGIMS, Rohtak for treatment. When PGIMS again conducted the test on him and his wife, both were found infected with the deadly virus. Eight persons in close contact with them have been found negative, while the reports of three others are awaited.
In the evening, a 35-year-old Uttar Pradesh resident also tested positive.
A spokesman of PGIMS Rohtak said that the patient was working as a carpenter at a plywood factory in Rohtak's Sampla before the announcement of lockdown.
The man who underwent test on Wednesday at Civil Hospital on Wednesday was admitted at PGIMS on Thursday afternoon after his report tested positive today evening.
Six of his family members have been isolated.
