More than half of Noida’s Covid-19 patients have recovered, back home

Noida: With 10 more Covid-19 patients discharged on Thursday, the number of those who have recovered is now higher than those who are still infected in Noida — 54 against 49.
The 52% recovery rate of Noida is much higher than the countrywide average of 19.89% and the state average, 12.4%. In fact, Noida alone accounts for 29% of the state’s recovered patients — 54 out of 187. “We now have more recovered patients than active ones because of monitoring, early quarantine of contacts and wider sampling,” district magistrate Suhas LY said.
And this, despite Noida being the state’s Covid hotspot for a long time before Agra, Lucknow and Saharanpur shot past it recently. Noida still has among the highest cases — 103 of the state’s 1,507. But there has been no death reported. “Most patients have been either asymptomatic or have had mild symptoms,” a health official said. The age profile of patients has helped — about 63% of the patients have been younger than 40.
And while one cluster of cases, the one from the Cease Fire company, made the Covid numbers shoot up, no other large cluster has emerged so far. “Better contact tracing and containment of the first few cases helped control the Cease Fire chain. That’s why the chain has shrunk by now. In the past 10 days, all Cease Fire-related cases have been either from hotspots or people who are under surveillance,” a health official said. The company was the point of origin for 55 of Noida’s 103 cases, in addition to cases in Ghaziabad, Meerut, Faridabad and Bareilly. “We have not had a single case with a Tablighi Jamaat link,” said an official. “Surveillance has been stepped up. The idea is to be prepared in advance for any new case that comes up. Then the chain of contact can be broken fast,” the official added.
Of the 54 discharged so far, most were from GIMS (22), followed by Child PGI (21), Sharda Hospital (7) and hospitals in Delhi (4). No new case was reported on Thursday.
“This is good news, but we have to tread cautiously. We hope people will follow the lockdown rules and support us the way they have,” the DM said.
