One more tests positive for COVID-19 in Odisha; cases rise to 90

  • A 40-year-old man from Odisha's Bhadrak district has tested positive for COVID-19, raising the total number of cases in the state to 90, officials said on Friday.
  • The man has a travel history to Kolkata, the Health and Family Welfare Department said, adding the contact tracing and other follow-up action is being undertaken.
  • With the fresh case, the number of COVID-19 patients in Bhadrak increased to 12, of whom 10 are active, officials said.

Uttarakhand Police register case against 2 toddlers for violation of home quarantine

  • The Revenue Police in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand has registered a case against 51 people, including a 6-month-old and a 2-year-old, for violation of home quarantine rules during the lockdown.
  • "FIR under Juveline Justice Act cannot be registered against those under 8 years of age. A probe will be conducted in the case," informed District Magistrate (DM) of Uttarkashi.
  • The DM also said that disciplinary and suspension action will be taken against COVID-19 magistrate of the district for registration of a case against the kids under Juveline Justice Act. He also has sought a report in the case.

AIIMS waives autopsy in deaths due to COVID-19

  • The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has not conducted any autopsies in cases of deaths on account of Covid-19, following a decision taken to protect the forensic doctors from the highly contagious virus.
  • Sudhir Gupta, head of the department of forensic medicine and toxicology at AIIMS, said autopsies on patients are too dangerous to undertake. “We have decided to waive autopsies in such cases,” he told ET, adding that the department waived post-mortem even in suspected Covid-19 cases. “The post-mortem was waived in six such non-confirmed but suspected Covid-19 cases,” he added.

  • India’s top leadership is working on a careful strategy to lift the lockdown without losing the gains that have been achieved through the stringent nationwide shutdown, said a senior government official. “Imposing a lockdown is very easy — you stop everything,” he said. “However, opening a lockdown is difficult.
