The Narendra Modi government at the center has taken a big step amid the lockdown declared due to the Coronavirus. Under this, the government has now banned the increase in dearness allowance for employees and pensioners. According to reports, the Central Government has proposed to not extend DA from January 1 to December 31, 2020. According to these reports, it will be paid as arrears.

This decision of the Central Government will have an impact on 54 lakh government employees and 65 lakh pensioners. It is believed that this decision has been taken by the government because of the deteriorating economic situation due to the announced lockdown in the country.

Withholding the four percent increase in dearness allowance for central employees and pensioners, the central government will save an average of Rs 1,000 crore per month. Significantly, the Modi government had announced a hike of four percent in dearness allowance of its employees only last month.
