Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, we bring you the latest updates from Chennai.

* With no money, scanty food, and little safety, more than 500 guest workers, including 30 women and children, crammed into tin sheds at a labour camp on Nookampalayam road in Perumbakkam are struggling to cope with the lockdown.

*10:34am Meenakshi Amman temple priest's 70-year-old mother who tested positive for Covid-19 died early morning today in Madurai.
* A 48-year-woman was brought to a private hospital in Nungambakkam nearly 36 hours after she had a heart attack. Two days ago, she had some chest and upper abdominal discomfort after dinner and assuming it was acidity, took acid suppression tablets. But, the pain didn’t reduce.
* The amount of fine collected for lockdown violation from across the state has crossed ₹2.68 crore. So far, 2.68 lakh cases have been booked for breaching Section 144 of CrPC and 2.85lakh people arrested.

* At least 600 tonnes of vegetables and fruits from the Koyambedu wholesale market have been delivered to customers at their doorsteps in the fortnight since the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority launched the initiative. All the commodities were supplied at fixed prices decided in Koyambedu.
* Determined to stop people, particularly motorists, coming on to the roads for frivolous reasons, police have decided to step up their crackdown and block off arterial stretches. On Anna Salai, key spots like Chinnamalai junction in Saidapet, Gemini flyover and near the Anna statue opposite Wallajah Salai have been cordoned off in the afternoons.
* As India is grappling with asymptomatic cases, doctors are adding one more warning sign of Covid-19 – rashes on feet.
* Even as the government decided to distribute kabasura kudineer to boost immunity of people against coronavirus in containment zones in Chennai, researchers have found that some ingredients — chukku, kirambu and nilavembu — in the herbal concoction can fight the virus.
* The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday launched Aarokyam, a special programme that suggests Ayush interventions for Covid-19. It has recommended a 60ml to 90ml dose of kabasura kudineer/nilavembu kudineer for adults once a day for a month to boost their immunity against Covid-19 among other measures.
* Industry, while appreciating the lockdown, now wants the state government to offer fiscal and procedural support to get it back on its feet.
* The state government on Thursday issued an order relaxing certain activities, including work under MGNREGA and construction activities in rural areas, in coronavirus non-containment zones across the state. It has also permitted state and central government offices to function for maintaining essential services with attendance not exceeding 33% of the total staff strength.
