Uttar Pradesh: Clerics ask Muslims to avoid mass gatherings

NOIDA: With the holy month of Ramadan about to begin, Muslim clerics across the district have urged community members to refrain from coming to mosques, which will remain closed for all outsiders.
Clerics have also asked people to refrain from mingling with each other, hold the special night prayer taraweeh indoors. Since iftaar parties cannot be held, clerics have also asked people to limit the Iftaar to family members. GB Nagar police, too, have started holding peace meetings with the imams and maulanas across areas with mixed population.
Imam Mufti Mubarak of the Noorani masjid in Sector 16, told TOI that the Darul-Uloom Deoband has issued multiple appeals to the masjids and members of the community and also fatwa regarding maintenance of law and order during the month of Ramadan, which starts on April 24.
Meanwhile, GB Nagar cops too held peace meetings in rural areas.
“Mass gatherings on iftaar would not be allowed and everyone has been asked to exercise social distancing,” said DCP Rajesh Kumar Singh.
