PUDUCHERRY: Ariyankuppam Congress
MLA T
Djeamourthy expressed his gratitude to
doctors for their selfless service by falling at the feet of a doctor during a special camp organised by the health minister's office to screen ministers, MLAs and MPs for
Covid-19 infection on the
Puducherry legislative assembly premises on Thursday.
The incident happened after a medical team took Djeamourthy's swab sample for medical examinations. The MLA, with folded hands, approached the doctor in-charge appreciating the doctors and paramedical staff members for their exceptional service during a pandemic. He fell at the feet of the doctor and attempted to touch his feet even as the stunned doctor moved back quickly.
Later, speaking to media, Djeamourthy said his action was to honour the doctors and pointed out that the doctors and paramedical staff were toiling day and night extending treatment to hundreds of patients at the containment zones in his constituency.
"It is to honour the doctors for their selfless service and to express our respect for them. They have dedicated themselves to the profession and to protect the people by risking their own lives. They are testing several patients for Covid-19 infection and extending treatment to the positive cases exposing themselves to the risk of contracting the virus. Their service in the containment zones in my constituency is exceptional," he said.
