SC junks Covid bail petition of VVIP chopper scam accused

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the interim bail plea of AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam accused Christian Michel James who is lodged in Tihar jail. A bench of Justices S K Kaul and B R Gavai dismissed the plea of the accused who approached the SC after the Delhi high court refused to allow him to come out of jail.
Christian Michel moved the bail plea, citing the Covid-19 outbreak and pleading the court that he be allowed to come out of Tihar as he may be infected with the virus inside the overcrowded jail. The bench, which conducted the hearing through video conferencing, said there was no need to interfere with the HC order.
