Ghaziabad: The second day of the sealing of the Delhi-
Ghaziabad border saw better traffic management as policemen posted at
UP Gate allowed
commuters involved in essential services to cross over to the national capital after checking their credentials.
Police, on the other hand, said they would issue
passes to commuters from Thursday and asked people to send their details so that passes could be made.
“People who are directly involved in the fight against
coronavirus and vehicles carrying essential items were allowed to pass through the
Delhi-Ghaziabad border after cops verified their identity cards. We even allowed those people who convinced us about any medical emergencies or showed us request letters from their offices stating their job profile entails essential services,” said Ashok Singh, a sub-inspector deployed at the UP Gate.
On Wednesday, however, there were fewer vehicles on the roads as compared to Tuesday, when the direction to seal the border by Ghaziabad district magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey, in the wake of six people from Delhi testing positive for coronavirus, resulted in a huge traffic jam. “A Delhi government order had also stated that only 33% of employees would come to the office on a rotation basis due to which the rush on Wednesday was far less” said Kalanidhi Naithani, SSP of Ghaziabad.
Meanwhile, Kalanidhi Naithani, SSP of Ghaziabad, said they have decided to give a day’s time to people who are working in government offices, banks and schools to get a pass made. “From Thursday, cops will be more strict and check all passes and other relevant papers before allowing commuters to cross the Ghaziabad-Delhi border,” he said.
The district administration, on the other hand, has already issued passes to media personnel after a request form the fraternity. “We have introduced a provision of e-passes for commuters engaged in essential services and that should suffice for allowing movement between Delhi and Ghaziabad,” said an official from the administration.
