Looking solely at its spec sheet, one could be forgiven for thinking that because the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette ‘only’ has 495 hp in a world where 700 hp mid-engined supercars are becoming the norm, it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be (even if we all know that beastlier versions are coming down the road).

After watching the video below, however, which features C8 Corvette models revving and accelerating, we think even the biggest skeptics will be converted.

Sure, the Corvette may not have as much power as some much more expensive sports cars from Europe, one key thing it has going for it is the fact its 6.2-liter V8 is naturally-aspirated, something that’s become increasingly rare among performance cars.

The C7 Corvette, also featured a 6.2-liter V8 and sounded absolutely epic and it’s no different with the new C8. On startup, the engine roars into life and burbles away in the way only an American V8 can. When you actually get up and drive the new ‘Vette, the engine and exhaust system combine to emit some lovely burbles on the overrun. Additionally, changing up through the gears at high revs produces a very satisfying ‘bark’ from the exhaust.

Prices for the 2020 Corvette started at $59,995 and while it’s thought that prices will jump for the 2021 model year, the car is still a superb bang-for-your buck proposition. Rivals like the Toyota Supra, Porsche 718 Cayman, and BMW M2 Competition don’t sound anywhere near as good as it either.

In a recent poll, CarScoops asked readers what sports car they would get for $60,000. With 36 per cent of the votes, the new Corvette comfortably proved the most popular option, beating out the Cayman in second place, the M2 Competition in third, Toyota GR Supra 3.0 in fourth, and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 in fifth.
