IAS is considered to be the highest level of Indian Administrative Service job. This is a highly prestigious post for which it is not easy to prepare and the selection is quite tough. The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is conducted by the UPSC every year after which an IAS officer is selected.


How to become an IAS officer-

The IAS exam is officially called the UPSC Civil Services Examination. UPSC CSE consists of 3 stages - Prelim, Main, and Interview. Today we are going to tell you about them in detail.

Civil Services Examination (CSE) -

Every year around 1000 candidates are selected for all 24 services jointly. The number of candidates applying for this was around 9 lakhs in 2016, out of which around 4.5 lakh candidates appeared for the examination. The UPSC has the right to select them.

Its syllabus is very tough and the exam is considered to be the most difficult exam in the world. The first is the prelims which are held around June, while the second phase, Main (written) is held around October. This is followed by an interview which is conducted by candidates who clear the prelims and the mains.

Candidates must have a graduation degree. Apart from this, last year students of the college can also apply. A

IAS Exam Attempt

For the General category there are 6 Attempts to pass this exam. The number of candidates for OBC candidates is 9, while there is no limit for SC / ST

Age limit

The age of the candidate to give UPSC Civil Service Pajgam is 21 years. The upper age limit for general category is 32 years and for OBC it is 35 years.

IAS Syllabus-

The Civil Services Prelims Exam consists of two papers numbered 200 (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper-II). The rank of a candidate in the UPSC Civil Services Examination depends only on the score made in the main and interview. The written examination (main) consists of 9 papers but only 7 papers are considered for final merit ranking.
