The Rajasthan government has taken major steps to make ration distribution easy and transparent during the lockdown announced due to the coronavirus. Under this, it has been decided to distribute wheat through the OTP by registering an Aadhaar card number in place of the ration card number in the state from May. Rajasthan is the first state in the country to implement such a system.

Giving this information, Siddharth Mahajan, Government Secretary, Department of Food and Civil Supplies said that during the lockdown, several important steps have been taken to distribute ration materials to the public easily and transparently.

Under this, ration distribution from POS machines under the National Food Security Scheme is being done with OTP in place of biometric verification. At present, ration distribution is being done by registering the ration card number in the register of OTP.

Siddharth Mahajan said that it will be mandatory for the beneficiary to bring the Aadhar card with him to get ration material. Foodgrains will be distributed to the beneficiary through the OTP by registering the Aadhaar card number in the POS machine on behalf of the fair price shopkeeper. Door-to-door delivery has also been arranged.
