India VIX slumps to 39

Turnover spurts in F&O segment on account of weekly options expiry.

The Nifty April 2020 were at 9,287.10, a discount of 26.8 points compared with the spot closing at 9,313.90.

Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's & options (F&O) segment was Rs 21.07 lakh crore compared with Rs 11.05 lakh crore reported in the previous session.

In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index surged 126.6 points or 1.38% and closed at 9,313.90.

The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, slumped 9% to 39.01.

On the options front, the Nifty option chain for 30 April 2020 expiry showed maximum call open interest (OI) of 18.71 lakh at the 10,000 strike price. Maximum put OI of 35.1 lakh contracts was seen at 9,000 strike price.

Reliance Industries (RIL), ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank were the top traded individual stock contracts in F&O segment of NSE. RIL April 2020 futures were at 1,368, compared with spot closing price of 1370.15. ICICI Bank April 2020 futures were at 351 compared with spot closing price of 350.8. HDFC Bank April 2020 futures were at 949.50, compared with spot closing price of 952.10.

The F&O contracts for April expire on 30 April 2020.
